Northwich Air Cadets Passout Parade

My name is Martin Moores and I am Adjutant at 146 Northwich Air Cadets.

We have a long relationship with the memorial hall. Since 1986, our new cadets have had their graduation ceremony, or "passout parade" there. I see you have also linked to one of our videos on your site.

These parades happen twice per year, after which we march back, with Sqn band, to our Sqn in Darwin Street (previously Queen Street).

The earliest photo we have of cadets at the memorial hall in in 1987 is at the link below. This was our 2nd entry of cadets, No2 Entry:

If there is anything I can help with, please let me know. The Sqn will be the last to use the memorial hall on the 3rd of March, where No51 Entry will passout. They are staying open an extra week, due to a double booking on the previous Sunday. After that, we will need a new venue.

Kind regards

Martin Moores

Memorial Hall Memories

Called up for National Service in 1959 and found Northwich a very different place when I came home on leave - the Morgue had been built in my absence.

Penrhyn Arms to start with - a couple of rum and blacks for dutch courage and then on to the Memorial Hall. "One and one to Barnton please", at least I was sure of the bus fare home! I walked into the main hall and didn't recognise anyone, all my old mates were either courting or married but still have happy memories of Saturday night gigs.

Also later happy memories of singing with the Northwich & District Festival Choir under the direction of the late Cyril Dawes.

Hopefully whatever replaces the Hall will create as many good memories.

Memorial Hall Memories

We both met at the Memorial Hall in 1963 shorty after the beatles had been there, and have been married for 46 years this year. We owned the off licence in West Ave, Rudheath and Mr Tom Mckenzie use to come into the shop. He was the MC there and would tell us about varies groups that had been there and he had plenty of photos of different groups. The Hollies use to go to the pub across from the Morg; it was where the car park is alongside Seafarer; before going on stage. I have not read anywhere when the rolling stone came; it was one Wednesday night, a rag dance from Hartford College.

Hope this information is helpfull.

Zumbathon

On the 28th October 2012 three Northwich Zumba Teachers hosted a " Zumbathon" lots of local women (and a few guys) dressed in Mardi Gras costumes danced for over two hours...solid!

We raised over two thousand pounds for our chosen charity St Luke's Hospice.

My Zumba Teacher is called Heather McKinley, also Carla Abaslom and Theresa Tomlinson were the three ladies who organised the event!

I raised money by selling the rainbow skirts! It was a great event :)
